This is a book with a strong female character as the lead that will appeal to all-ages and is still solid for adults. It is a creator owned book by one of the best working creators of color in the comic book market today and it is very close to not getting made.

As you may know, Kickstarter is an all or nothing deal. If Jamal Igle does not meet his goal for this project, he gets none of what’s pledged. People, I want this book. I want to read this book. I want to enjoy this book. I want to share this book with my daughter, my cousins, my sisters, my wife, and my friends and their kids. Far be it for me to tell anyone what to do with their money (outside of buying Princeless) but if you are a fan of Princeless, this is probably the kind of book you want to see in the marketplace…forget that, in the hands of you and your kids.

Hey look, an awesome lady doing awesome stuff, AND a chance to talk to people about body types!
Because here’s the thing - I have seen a hella lot of shit posted on tumblr about “waif-fu,” which is basically mocking the idea that women like Summer Glau or Sarah Michelle Gellar could ever be badasses. They’re too skinny! They’re too frail! A big strong man could snap them like a twig! And I think that Ms. Wright here may have the body type that people think is more appropriate to a superhero/soldier/badass woman; densely muscled, powerful, big thighs etc. This, I think, is the ideal that Ms. Glau or Ms. Gellar fall short of.
But what people don’t seem to understand is that they are taking what they see in male superheroes/soldiers/badasses and grafting it onto female superheroes/soldiers/badasses without really questioning what it is they’re seeing in either gender. Because the thing is - Ms. Wright lifts weights. This is a weightlifter’s body. Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth lift weights - those are also weightlifter bodies. For all that they might box or do yoga on the side, the actors who embody the Steve McGarretts or Derek Hales lift a shitton of weights, and that’s where their physique comes from (that and a shitton of nutritional restriction).
You know who has an actual fighter’s body? Robert Downey, Jr. And he is very attractive, and incredibly fit, but he’s not particularly broad or tapered; he’s got muscle pretty evenly distributed, and although he looks good without his shirt off he doesn’t look that intimidating. And for women, it’s no different; I knew a 110-pound girl who could beat the ass of any guy who came in the ring with her, and she wore her hair in Princess Leia buns while she did it.
I think it’s fine to bemoan the lack of body diversity in film, and even fine to say that the things we want to see our actors doing don’t line up often enough with the bodies we want to see our actors having. But making fun of “waif-fu” is just another way to body shame, with the added bonus of reinforcing the (incorrect) notion that you have to be big and buff in order to protect yourself. Thin women, skinny women, frail women - they can kick ass, probably harder than you’re comfortable admitting. Stop telling them what they should look like while they’re doing it.

Hey everybody! Sorry, I fell off there a little bit, but we’re back and we have fresh art for you from Ms. Jules Rivera.
If you remember, she’s doing a story in our short story collection called “Meet The Smiths” featuring our beloved you blacksmith a few years before we meet her. What does this page have to do with Bedelia? Well, if you can’t tell then you probably haven’t read Princeless Issue 3. You should get on that.
300 Followers! Huzzah to that! And that means more Bedelia love!
Now Jules Rivera has taken on the task of drawing Bedelia roughly four years before we first meet her in Princeless 3, so she had to de-age a pretty ageless face. Personally, I think she did a phenomenal job. Also, check out all the different looks she gets from Bedelia. How could you not love a face like that?

The Black Knight!
Had you forgotten? Had you lost count? Were you too busy reading your free copy of Princeless Issue #1 at Bleeding Cool? We were still short one baddy for the upcoming volume…and here he is!
The Black Knight is fierce, he’s strong, he’s the best swordfighter there is…and no one has ever heard his voice or seen his face. In the War of Succession he fought by the side of the young Prince Ashe so that he could take his place on his father’s throne. There is no one as trusted or as feared in all of Ashland.
Here’s what the King has to say: ”And my fiercest of friends, a man who none have seen in years, but whose tales are told by gorgons to scare their children. The Black Knight.”
So that completes our character sketches for the upcoming issue 5!
